Tuesday, August 18- 3:00pm- 5:00pm Headquarters for the Nevada Highway Patrol, Southern Command  The Headquarters for the Nevada Highway Patrol, Southern Command is located at the south end of Las Vegas in a new facility which also contains the Nevada Department of Transportation's Traffic Management Center for Las Vegas. This modern facility combines the Nevada Highway Patrol's dispatch center with the monitoring capabilities of "FAST", the Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation, one of the first fully integrated Intelligent Transportation System organizations in the Country. Dispatchers can watch live highway activity from around the County on a two story high "video wall". This wall can simultaneously show up to 36 displays of highway activity almost anywhere on Clark County Highways.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) was formed in 1973 with the consolidation of the City of Las Vegas Police and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. LVMPD is the largest law enforcement agency in the state of Nevada. Currently, LVMPD has over 5,300 members. The LVMPD Communications Bureau reports to the Communications and Technology Services Division. The Bureau Commander is Director Barbara Doran. The Communications Bureau is comprised of 286 personnel. This includes a Director, 4 Communications Managers, 21 Communications Supervisors, 178 Dispatch Specialists, 52 9-1-1 Specialists, 19 PBX personnel, and 11 clerical support personnel. Our current number of dispatch specialist vacancies is 33. Our current building, MetroComm, opened in August 2000. At 31,200 square feet, it houses the Dispatch Center and the Radio Shop. In September 2007, our building received the TOBY Award by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Nevada recognizing high quality, and rewarding excellence in facility management, operations and asset value enhancement. The average number of calls that come into the center daily is 9,500. Of those calls approximately 2,800 are 9-1-1 calls. We currently staff 10 Patrol channels, 1 Resident Officer channel, 1 Information channel and 12 to 23 call-taking positions based on the daily call volume. We have a continual goal to answer all 9-1-1 calls within 10 seconds.
